Anger
A very short saying in which the Buddha tells the mendicants that giving up one thing, anger, leads to non-return, a term the text uses without explaining. The verse adds that beings overcome by anger go to a bad place, that the discerning understand anger and give it up, and that once it is given up they never return to this world. Nothing further is explained; the whole saying turns on giving up this one thing.
A note on this text. “Non-return” and “never return to this world” refer to rebirth, and “a bad place” is not explained.

This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
“Mendicants, give up one thingand I guarantee you non-return.What one thing?Anger is the one thing. Give it up,and I guarantee you non-return.”The Buddha spoke this matter.On this it is said:
“When overcome by angerbeings go to a bad place.Having rightly understood that anger,the discerning give it up.Once they’ve given it up,they never return to this world.”
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
