About

About this site

A free, practical companion to the early Buddhist texts, and the home of the iPhone app Buddhism: Daily Dharma.

What it is

Daily Dharma Practice offers a short daily practice (a passage, a sit, an action and a question), the complete Dhammapada, 93 discourses, a glossary and a meditation timer. Everything on the site is free to use without an account. It is published by Gabriel Petersen, who also publishes the iPhone app.

Where the texts come from

Every source text is Bhikkhu Sujato’s English translation, published by SuttaCentral and dedicated to the public domain under Creative Commons Zero. The files are taken from SuttaCentral’s bilara-data repository at a single pinned version (commit bab9eec4bd9c), with a checksum recorded for each, and shown unchanged. See sources and credits.

How the explanations were written

The introductions, lesson explanations, glossary definitions, guided-session scripts and the guides on this site are original text. They were developed with AI assistance and checked against the linked source texts. That checking was done by a language model, not by a human teacher or scholar. They are one plain-language reading of each passage, not an authoritative interpretation, and they may contain mistakes.
