Privacy Policy
This policy covers the website dailydharmapractice.com and the iPhone app Buddhism: Daily Dharma (com.gabrielpetersen.dailydharma), both published by Gabriel Petersen.
In short
- The website has no accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking scripts.
- The app keeps your journal and practice records on your iPhone only. We have no server that receives them.
- Purchases in the app go through Apple only.
- We do not sell personal data and do not use it for advertising or profiling.
Part A: the website
What the website collects
Nothing that identifies you, by our own design. The site does not set cookies, does not run analytics or advertising code, does not embed third-party trackers, and serves its fonts itself, so your browser does not contact Google Fonts or similar services when you visit.
Hosting
The website is hosted by Vercel Inc. Like any web host, Vercel necessarily processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, and may keep this in short-lived server logs under its own policies. We do not use these logs to identify or profile visitors.
Storage in your browser
The meditation timer saves the sit in progress in your browser’s session storage, so a sit survives an accidental reload; it is cleared when the sit ends or the tab is closed. If you dismiss the app banner on a phone, that choice is remembered in session storage for the visit. Nothing in browser storage is sent to us. “Today’s practice” is chosen from your device’s date inside your browser; the date is not sent anywhere.
Read aloud
If you turn on “read the cues aloud” in the timer, your browser’s built-in speech feature speaks the cue text. Depending on your browser and settings, the browser or operating system vendor may generate that speech with its own service. The site sends nothing to us.
Contacting us
If you email or call us, we receive what you choose to send (for example your email address and message) and use it only to reply. You can ask us to delete that correspondence.
Part B: the iPhone app
What the app stores on your device
The app keeps its data in a local database inside the app’s own storage on your iPhone: journal entries you write; practice records such as completed lessons, sitting minutes, routines, reminder times and settings; and a cached result of the last subscription check so the app works offline. None of this is sent to us. The app does not analyse mood, score your reflections or infer anything from what you write.

Purchases
Daily Dharma Plus is bought and renewed through Apple. We never see your payment details. The app checks whether a subscription is active by asking StoreKit, the purchase framework built into iOS; it has no server of its own and uses no third-party subscription service. We never receive an identifier for you.
Notifications
Reminders are optional, scheduled locally on your device, and use fixed, generic wording. There is no push server. You can turn them off in the app or in iOS Settings at any time.
Device narration
Optional read-aloud uses the speech synthesis built into iOS with the voices on your device. Text is spoken by your iPhone and is not sent to us.
Backups, reinstalling, losing a device
Because the app’s data lives only on your iPhone, it follows your device’s normal backup behaviour: iCloud Backup or a computer backup may include it, under Apple’s terms. If you delete the app or lose your iPhone without a backup, your journal is gone. Restoring a subscription does not restore your journal; export it from time to time if it matters to you.
Export and deletion
You can export your journal as JSON or plain text through the iOS share sheet, edit or delete any entry, and, under You → Settings → Your data, delete all journal entries or all practice history. Deleting the app removes all of its local data.
Children
Neither the website nor the app is directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete personal data. For the app, you exercise these directly on your device, because we hold no record of you. For correspondence with us, write to the address below.
Security
The website is served over HTTPS. App data is protected by your iPhone’s own safeguards, such as your passcode or Face ID; the app adds no separate encryption layer and has no server of its own to protect.
Changes
If we change what the website or the app collects, we will update this page and its effective date, and describe app changes in the app’s release notes.
